Founder and Executive Director

Patrick Karanja

Patrick Karanja is a lawyer, governance adviser, and ministry leader with more than eighteen years of experience at the intersection of legal practice, nonprofit governance, business and human rights, and international development across Kenya and the broader African continent.

He founded the Mustard Touch Foundation in 2014 as the institutional expression of a calling he could not yet fully name — the bishop-maker ministry of building leaders, forming institutions, and investing in the people that the visible church has not yet seen.

He is the author of The Mustard Touch: 8 Disciplines of Effective Ministry Leadership and SMART Nonprofit Leadership. He came to Nairobi at twenty-five with a backpack and no relatives to call. He has been fellowshipping at Parklands Baptist Church since 2006. His name, Karanja, means in the Gĩkũyũ language: one who prepares the way, establishes the homestead, guards what is entrusted. He did not choose the name. But it turns out it was the calling.
